Restoring a filling cabinet

For the past 3 weeks I have been fixing up an old filing cabinet for my wife.
This involved a lot of wire-brushing...

... some white and pink spay paint ...

... and welding up seven replacement runners for the drawers.

My wife choose the knobs and they fit perfectly!

Ellams Duplicator: late 19th century mimeograph

I got this new toy. It is called a Ellams Duplicator from the late 1800's. It was one of the first copiers. I can't wait to get it working and printing again.

Old book covers into sketch books

One of the problems I find with doing water color sketching is that I can't find any affordable sketchbooks that I like. I made a set of sketch books utilizing the covers of some old hardcover books bought at the second hand book store. The inside is watercolor paper, 120 g.

The covers where cut from the books

The insides cut to size

I made a clamp to hammer the spine into shape

I used this stitch without strips (c) and (b)

All stitched up

Spine is clamped and ready for the shaping

Gluing the spine, I used the old book contents as clamps with cling film as insulation.

The final product. I made 2 concertina books out of the offcuts.

Stinkwood bowl

This piece of stinkwood was givin to me with the hope that I could do something with it, because the owner could not.

I mounted it on a chair and stared at it for about 3 hours, looking inside the wood for the sculpture that was inside. At the end I saw a freeform bowl.
I love the way the grain forms patterns all over it.

The best part of the bowl is at the bottom, where the grain and the form maches beautifully.
